Online registration closes 10/24/2015
We have all been in a room when someone who possesses something extra special walks in and the atmosphere in the room changes. Megan is just such a person! She truly shines and is the kind of person who walks with goodness left in her wake. In this way, it makes it even harder to tell her story and why she needs Anything for a Friend! In February of 2012, Megan was shocked to learn that while only 34, she was diagnosed with Stage 3C operable breast cancer with receptors positive for both estrogen and progesterone. By the middle of 2013, after a mastectomy and reconstruction, chemo therapy and radiation, the cancer had gone into remission. They had hoped it would be in remission for good, but in June 2015, they were devastated to learn that her breast cancer had progressed to stage 4 inoperable breast cancer. It had metastasized into her bones. Scans showed cancer in both of her hips, her cervical spine and right scapula. She immediately had a complete hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries. She then started a new regimen of medications including monthly IVs and a new experimental medication. This new medication costs $10,000 per month. Thankfully, there is a medication assistance program that pays for most of the cost. However, at the end of December, the assistance program expires. Megan and her Husband Dave are not sure how they will pay for the medication at that point. Her Doctors told her that in two years, the chance of her cancer moving into her other organs was 75%, and by 3 years, her change of it moving to her organs was a staggering 85%. This experimental medication would hopefully decrease her chances of further invasion from 75% to 65% after two years and by 3 years, from 85% to 75%. Even with this experimental medication her prognosis is sobering. As those who love her we immediately wanted to do something...ANYTHING! Megan and her family needs us. Please join us for Megan's special Anything for a Friend event, where we will demonstrate our love, care, and concern through active hands and hearts!
